The events programme for the BIG50 Book Festival is now live. View the free sessions and activities that will be held at venues across North Northamptonshire, helping people of all ages discover the joy of reading, creativity and storytelling.

All events at the BIG50 Book festival are free to attend. Please view the programme below for session details including dates, times and venues. We’re still waiting for final details on a few sessions and these will be updated as soon as possible.

Friday 16 October

Non-Linear Narratives and Storytelling for Games: A Workshop*
A workshop delivered in partnership with the Centre for New Writing, exploring non-linear narratives and storytelling for games.

Date: 16 October. Time: 10am to 12:30pm. Location: Tresham College, Kettering.

*Please note – this is a closed event for students.


Monday 19 October

Rhymetime with Story
Songs, stories and rhymes for early years. Date: 19 October. Time: 10am to 10:30am. Location: Rushden Library.

Halloween Story Time
Spooky stories and ghost crafts. Date: 19 October. Time: 10:30am to 11:30am. Location: Corby Library. Find out more details and book onto this free session.

Play and Learn: Under 1s Storytime
Board book-themed session. Free book for every child. Date: 19 October. Time: 10am to 11am. Location: Kettering Library. Find out more details and book your space.

Reading Workshop
With a library tour, reading quizzes, literacy activities and a craft and wellbeing space. This event is aimed at primary school children – with invitations sent out to local schools. Designed to ignite a love of reading in an inspirational setting. Date: 19 October. Time: 12:30pm to 4pm.

Tuesday 20 October

Digital Day for Get Online Week 
Featuring BorrowBox and the digital library offer for all ages. Date: 20 October. Time: 10am to 4pm
Location: Rushden Library.

Gruffalo & Gruffalo Granny Story and Craft
Storytelling and crafts following Rhymetime at 10am. Date: 20 October. Time: 10:30am to 11:30am
Location: Irthlingborough Library.

BIG50 Rhymetime Special
Rhymes and shared storytelling. Date: 20 Oct. Time: 11am to 11:30am

BIG50 Rhymetime

BIG50 Halloween Story Time

The Tiger Who Came to Tea
A story session and themed tea party inspired by the classic children’s book. Date: 22 October. Time: 1:30pm to 2:30pm.

Explore a Story
A reading-focused session encouraging children to explore and engage with stories. Date: 23 October. Time: 10am to 11am.

A roundtable with senior leaders from education, the LVEP and North Northamptonshire Council. Date: 23 October. Time: 12 noon to 4pm.
Location: Corby Sixth Form.

Teen Book Club
Self-led writing and story-themed activities for young people. Date: 23 October. Time: 4pm to 5pm

Author Visit with Juliet Timpson

Reopening Celebration – Art Gallery
To showcase and celebrate the library and Alfred East Art Gallery in Kettering, a special event will take place that will be supported by the Friends of the Art Gallery & Museum.  Date: 24 October. Time: from 10am.
